My half-sister, Linda, was raised Catholic. She went to a catholic parochial school for religious training because her parents were non-religious but wanted a religious influence in her life. Later Linda became a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. Her mother, whose name was Judy, was a Jew but a non-practicing Jew.

Towards the end of Judy's life she got bone cancer and was on her death bed. Linda was worried about her mother dying because she knew not Jesus. Linda shared the gospel with her mother. Judy responded by praying the sinner's prayer, and was baptized, and attended Church with Linda for a short time.

Judy didn't die from the bone cancer. Instead she got gradually better by the grace of God. She went from a wheelchair, to just walking with a cain, and then to walking unaided and getting around like she did before she developed bone cancer. Her bone cancer went into remission. All of this with little or no medical intervention.

Judy moved to a retirement home that had residents that were mainly Jewish. A Rabbi would come every Sabbath and have have a worship service. Judy would attend. Linda tried many times to get her mother to go to Church with her but Judy refused. When Linda questioned her about it Judy would say, "I'm just covering all my bases."

Eventually Judy's cancer came back. Again she was on her death bed. My brother Earl, Linda's half-brother, who lived in California went to Florida to be with Linda as her mother was dying.

Earl was there for a little less than a week when Judy slipped into a coma. The hospital called Linda late one night and told her that her mother would be dead by morning and if she wanted to see her she need to come right then.

Linda and Earl went to the hospital. They spent several hours reminiscing with Judy about the past. They asked her to move her finger, wiggle her toes, blink her eyes or make some kind of indication that she could hear them. Judy made no response.

Finally, Linda said, "Mom, your time has come. It is either Jesus or Judaism. It can't be both ways. If you want Jesus, then pray after me." Linda prayed the sinners prayer. Then Linda said, "Mom, Jesus is here. His hand is stretched out to you. If you want Jesus, lift your hand and put it into His and He will take you home." Right afterwards, Judy lifted up her arm and she died.

Even though Judy in a sense had come to reject Christ in her life after she first asked Jesus to save her by embracing Judaism, God in His mercy, grace, and lovingkindness gave Judy another opportunity in the last few minutes of her life to receive Him as her Savior. She responded and He took her home to Heaven.

God is a good God. If for some reason a believer is not not right with God, God will give him/her a chance to get right with Him before he/she dies. Praise God for the Love and Grace of God!
